Artist's Comments

This was a commission I did for someone locally; Chessies are an unusual breed, with milk-chocolate brown fur and dense curls. They really love the water. At 5" by 7", it's a smaller painting; watercolour, of course.

Thank you very much! I kind of wish the reference photo had been at a better angle, but I was pretty happy with the outcome here. :)

I was wondering how you get so much done in such a short time :)

Well, I actually usually do about two paintings a day if I'm on a roll, so I am pretty speedy. But I've got hundreds on file in the computer. I could post one a day and never get caught up! :D

I wish i could be as quick, i think because pencil is such a slow process it's quite hard to do as many, i think if and when i can make money from it i'm going to either have to pick up speed or have several on the go at one time :) or learn to paint with different mediums so i can keep a constant supply of different things :)

Another beautiful piece....and I really love the expression. Considering the angle you chose, it's amazing how you can still capture the character and expression of the dog.

It's a very peaceful piece to look at as well. The view of the dog is more original than just a standard face-on shot or side-view, and I think your choice of backgrounds is as important as the subject. You always match colours perfectly to create the right mood for each piece.

Interesting to hear about the breed too; I was wondering whether he was a difficult subject, because it sounds like he's a very energetic kind of dog lol ;)
