Yeah, I know - he's not really an animal, but I've been posting a lot of one-colour portraits on the other account and thought I'd put this one on RamonaQ for a change.

Basil Rathbone was a South African Brit actor who was best known as the title character in the Sherlock Holmes movie and radio programme series during World War II. I really like old radio programmes. :)

This is watercolour, 9" by 12". Original available.

I used to love watching the olde black n white shows when I was little :giggle: *was all there was on the 1 station on T.V. waaaaaaaay back when* and I recognized him from the olde Mark of Zorro movie as well =P He has quite the distinguished look about him and is easily espied :D

I think it's so interesting that they made him a villain in most of the non-Sherlock movies. :D Particularly with that pipe, I suppose it's hard to mistake him for someone else. ;)

Thank you so much! I was joking around yesterday about how this one will probably be at the gallery for a while...unless some big Basil Rathbone fan wanders in. I can't imagine that happening anytime soon. :D

Thanks! So you actually know whothis guy is?!? :D Interesting story about that - most of this is heavy sepia, but as I was finishing it, one of the students borrowed my pallette so I had to finish in burnt umber. :D

Thank you very much! I hope some big Basil Rathbone fan finds this one, but I'm not holding my breath. :D Sorry about all the one-colour stuff all of a sudden, but that's what I'm teaching in my classes, so that's what's getting done. ;)
